BAD BREATH & HALITOSIS SYMPTOMS

Bad breath happens when you exhale and move a volume of air over the back of the throat and tongue during breathing and talking. Mouth compounds will volatilize and mix with this expelled air. It is these compounds that people will smell as your bad breath. If you look at the table on the Bad Breath Causes Page, you can see what particular smell you will give off according to which compound is the predominant smelly compound in your mouth.

Bad taste or taste changes. Changes of taste in the mouth may happen for a number of reasons. Basically if you have a bad taste or a sour taste, then most likely you are tasting sulphur compounds that are collecting in your gums and tongue. However if you have a taste change or a metallic taste then this is an indicator of dry mouth. These changes are caused by the lack of saliva.

A White or Yellow Coating on the Tongue. This coating is generally a mixture of sulphur compounds mixed with mucous and sometimes food particles or coffee or tea. It is this coating that people smell when you exhale whilst talking. Another way to check your tongue is to rub a clean handkerchief over the tongue surface. Have a look at what the handkerchief removes and also smell the handkerchief.

Bad smells from the nose when exhaling. It has always been said that you cannot smell your own breath. However this is not entirely true. We have found that patients with an increase of sulphur compounds in the nasal passages can actually smell their own breath when they exhale vigorously. This sign has become one of our principle means of diagnosing bad breath originating from the nose.

Lick the back of your hand. Allow the licked area to dry for 10 seconds, and then smell that area. This way you are smelling the crystals deposited on the back of the hand. If it has an odour, then you have bad breath. This is not a great test, but it is good for when you are out and about and you need a quick breath check.

Get professionally tested with a Halimeter. Halimeter are machines calibrated to measure sulphur compounds in the parts per billion. They are great for giving you a numeric readout, and guiding you as to your progress in tackling bad breath.

Tonsil stones or Tonsiloliths. Patients that have post nasal problems often report coughing up small condensed stones that smell awful. These tonsil stones are made from compressed sulphur compounds, mucous, and bacteria. They are an excellent indicator of nasal problems causing bad breath.

Breeze Revolutionary Products
Recent research has radically changed the way to treat bad breath. Breezecare is playing a part in this research by undertaking clinical studies to determine the best combination of products to allow patients to have fresh breath all day long. Currently Breezecare has developed two unique brands BREEZE fresh breath products and KFORCE oral replacement therapy.

KFORCE Clean Rinse is our latest rinse. It contains Streptococcus salivarius K12 developed by BLIS Technologies and Otago University. This particular bacteria has been shown to occur naturally in the mouths of healthy individuals. This bacteria contains bactericin  that can stop the overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria ( a known causes of bad breath)

Breeze Triclosan Mouthwash  is designed to maintain your new healthy mouth as well as leave you with a "just cleaned" fresh taste in your mouth. It also contains Zinc Gluconate to increase its efficiency.

Breeze Oral Gel  contains a unique blend of Cetylpyridium and Chitosan to not only provide soothing qualities for mouth ulcers but to also maintain a healthy mouth in combination with our other products.
